Sad news over at Dizzy Girl
My Mother just woke me up with a call to tell me that my nephew, Jeremiah, was killed in Iraq. He was giving some children candy and Frisbees when he was hit by shrapnel.
The more I learn the sadder this story becomes...
Jeremiah Edward Savage saw a lot of things as a Marine.
But as a father, he never got to see his newborn son — not even a picture of the baby, born two months ago.
''I talked to him (on Tuesday), and I told him that his pictures were on the way,'' said his wife, Cassandra Savage. ''I told him the pictures were in there with his cigarettes and he should be getting them any day now. I'm pretty sure he never got them.''
is another story about Jeremiah. excerpt:
"On Wednesday afternoon, Lance Corporal Savage was doing the very thing we came here to do: help Iraq," said Capt. Robert S. Weiler, company commander. "We had just visited a water treatment plant so that the people there could get more than one hour of drinking water a day. Then we handed out Frisbees and soccer balls to the children and put smiles on their faces, which was something Savage loved to do."
Weiler said Savage, father of five, was the epitome of the 1st Marine Division's "no better friend, no worse enemy" motto.
My prayers are with his family today.
